Detecting Vegetation Change in Haiti Using Landsat 8 Remote Sensing
Course: GEOG 6400 / Remote Sensing
This project used Landsat 8 multispectral imagery to detect and quantify vegetation change across Haiti between 2013 and 2023. NDVI time series analysis and change detection methods were applied to assess deforestation patterns and vegetation recovery zones.
Methods: Landsat 8 imagery processing, NDVI calculation and time series analysis, change detection (image differencing), cloud masking, Google Earth Engine / ArcGIS Pro.
Key Findings: Significant vegetation loss detected in northern and central regions. Some coastal areas showed partial vegetation recovery. Results align with known deforestation trends driven by charcoal production and land clearing.
